TCU-400-M

Designed for use with a Very Small, or Ultra Small Aperture Terminals in a mobility application - in particular maritime. It provides the advanced spread spectrum and multiple access features required to achieve cost-effective bandwidth sharing whilst using small, cheap stabilised terminals.

The integrated modem and antenna control functions provides exceptional antenna tracking performance - even with very low (or negative) C/N levels and high elevation angles.

KEy FEATURES

Physical Layer (L1) Features
  • Proprietary high-performance burst transmission and burst reception
  • Supports 3 dimensions of multiple access (FDMA/TDMA/CDMA), for greater system design flexibility than traditional MF-TDMA modems
  • Spreading factor of any integer from 1 (no spreading) to 64
  • Spread spectrum support enables:
    • Physical layer security
    • Power spectral density control - essential for the use of small aperture antennas and mobility applications
    • The ability to use USAT antenna sizes for mobility

Link Layer (L2) Features
  • Dynamic assignment of frequencies / time-slots / codes according to real-time per-terminal traffic demands (DAMA - Demand Assigned Multiple Access)
  • Supports traffic classification and prioritisation at L2

IP Layer (L3) Features
  • QoS (IP traffic classification and prioritisation)
  • Forward link (hub to remote) IP broadcast / multicast
  • Built-in UDP and IP header compression

Hub / System Integration
  • All THISS modems (hub and terminal devices) integrate with the THISS hub and Satellite NMS
  • Patented Distributed Resource Management (DRM) allows intelligent satellite resource selection ("automatic beam-switching"), software version and system configuration updates
